Have you ever been in a relationship with someone so caring and thoughtful who remembers all the important dates? By that I don’t mean just anniversaries but everything that represents how long you have been together (another special date or something else romantic that your other half doesn’t remember but you do) and how much you mean to each other. I had never had that until I met my Dan. And on Thursday 24th of September I was surprised with my husband’s gesture. He gave me a card to say that we were celebrating 1,000 days together!

As a Brazilian, I expect people to look at me and already know where I come from. However, a lot of people think that I am either from an Arabic country, India, Italy, Spain,… everything but Brazil. Is it the skin colour and the big hair? When I eventually tell them that I am Brazilian, they very quickly say “Nice”. I guess being a Brazilian in Europe makes you stand out from the crowd, as you come across as more “exotic”. Men also start thinking of the Brazilian samba dancers during carnival and start checking you out to see if you are within the “standards” of Brazilian beauty they’ve seen on telly. I think that must be the Brazilian women stereotype they have in their funny heads. This is a very shallow concept about women in general (judging based on the looks), but this post is all about appearances I’m afraid! Another day we talk about what is beautiful inside of everyone.
Everybody knows by now that I am pregnant. It is such an incredible, exciting and scary feeling! You dream about all sorts of things about the baby: the sex, who is she/he going to look like with, the birth you are going to have… so, as the birth is the first thing to come about, I have idealised this perfect water birth where Dan and I would be inside of the bathtub in the hospital and he would help me to pull the baby out after two hours (the most!) of labour. I know I sound quite different for a Brazilian (as the majority option is c-section). But I don’t know if it is the English mentality that encouraged me to want a natural birth or just me knowing that normal birth is best for the baby and for me. However, sometimes things don’t go to plan as we wished for.
