Happy New Year’s Eve everyone! Came here to share a quick post with you all. Are you in a relationship with an English man/ woman? If you are from a warm country like me, I suggest you ask your English lover whether they have ever spent New Year’s Eve outdoors? I did just that yesterday to find out that my Dan never did (except for once when he spent it at Birmingham town centre. No, there were no fireworks. Apparently he was just outside with his mates drinking)!
My favourite time of the year is here! I’ve always loved the magic of Christmas, the food, the presents, but above all, the time I spend with my family. Having said that, after moving to England, I feel like the magic has actually increased! Why? The weather and all the traditions about Christmas in England give it an even nicer feeling. Shame my family in Brazil is not here but at least I have now a family of my own!
So I would like to share some of the English traditions which are absolutely fine but that when I first came, I had no idea they existed. If you are a foreigner, I hope you relate. If you are English and reading this, I hope you laugh and have more sympathy with all the funny foreigners out there who look puzzled about your traditions!
For all of you who thought the year is about to end and so are your hopes to find the men/ women of your dreams, this post is for you. Why? Because of Christmas work parties of course! Trust me, it worked for me and another Brazilian friend of mine. I am going to give you 5 tips on how not to sleep with your boss after Christmas party and still have him for life!
English people usually rely on a drink or two to loosen up a bit. If you are “The Foreigner” from your company and interested in somebody from there, this might be your chance to get that shy English person who probably totally fancies you but doesn’t have the guts to approach you.
A friend of mine told her colleague that she was interested in a particular guy from the office. This colleague told the guy about her and they started making eye contact and smiling in the office beforehand but only properly met at the office party. Apparently they both made a move (which is very rare as usually the English person just won’t make the first step). They are now married and with a beautiful baby.
Me on the other hand, had felt a few times the “shivers” from within after “my boss” approached me in the office. No, I wasn’t scared, I was actually interested in him (and his smell, which was really delicious). Nevertheless, I never really contemplated having anything with him because he was “The Boss”. Also, I have always thought that dating somebody from the office was very boring because you see each other every day and talk about the same stuff… Well, that is what I thought until the Christmas party took place anyway.
Through my own experience, I am going to give you a tip of how to get (and hopefully develop a relationship) with that cute colleague from the office:
